I must have said it enough times for you to know that I’m a pallid, city girl with little bearings of how to interact with the sun. I was the one who conducted outdoor games for university orientation with an umbrella. So when AirAsia flew a few of us up to Boracay, I prepped myself for some serious beach-proofing.
We usually don’t do beauty products here, but when VMV Hypoallergenics offered me their VMV Armada Sunblock, I couldn’t refuse. Sarah’s an avid applier of sunblock, and I guess some of it rubbed off on me, hah. My skin doesn’t agree with strong sun, so this smooth, non-sticky formula is of course the first step to beach-proofing.
Havaianas sent me a pair of flip flops from their slim tropical collection full of snazzy palm prints, which makes my full black pair from Blueprint a little lacklustre. The only alternative to beach footwear, is no footwear.
Then I pulled together some other things in my water-resistant Fjallraven Kanken backpack. A grandmama visor, sunnies, a book, a camera, the new Lytro camera (more on it later!), a pouch for my toiletries, a pouch for my valuables, a pouch for my pouches…
Am I overthinking this? I thought to myself. Nothing got wet, no part of me was burnt. This paid off so well.
